Thinking Egg II offers new elements for infinite inspiration

All too often, modern life feels like it has an endless supply of distractions. Between daily tasks and external demands for our attention, it’s no surprise that meditation has surged in popularity over the years. Thankfully, we have that and other tools to help reduce stress and improve focus. The latest, the Thinking Egg II, promotes mindfulness through natural materials and ergonomic design.

Every other month, there seems to be some new or upgraded version of the fidget toy. Originally a simple concept, such gadgets continue to evolve with more and complex features. For many, the added input is counterproductive. It’s true that less can indeed be more. The Thinking Egg II offers an elegant approach to the tactile benefits of mindfulness tools. In short, it’s a different take on a worry stone.

Crafted with precise specifications, the Thinking Egg II measures 23.38 mm long by 17 mm wide. The overall size is similar to a Cadbury Mini Egg. Unlike those delightful treats, each Thinking Egg II has a functional base that allows it to balance upright on flat surfaces. The weight of each varies, dependent on the material. While sandstone is the lightest at 9.7 g, Damascus steel tops out at 28 g. There is also crystal quartz, tiger’s eye, and jade, each of which exhibits its own unique surface texture.

  • An egg made of crystal quartz, sitting upright on a wood table.
  • A polished sandstone egg, sitting upright on a table in front of two stacked books.

Throughout history, people have thought these materials to hold metaphysical properties. For example, tiger’s eye promotes courage; jade connects us to luck and intuition. Combined with the cultural symbolism of the egg shape, the Thinking Egg II packs a lot of meaning in a pocket-portable form. However, one does not need to believe in all that to appreciate the purpose. It’s a beautiful tool for mindfulness and overall awareness for one’s day-to-day life.

The Thinking Egg II is currently funding on Kickstarter. More than 3000 backers have helped raise over US$190 thousand dollars in less than a week. The campaign still has over 50 days of funding left to go. Early bird pledges for a single Thinking Egg II start at about $14 per material and $75 for the whole set. For about $118, backers can opt for the complete collection, which includes all the original Thinking Egg materials (Howlite stone, bamboo, lava stone, and brass) in addition to the new ones. If everything goes according to schedule, backers can expect shipments to start September 2021.
